Important Note: This feature requires the Hall Pass Plus add-on.
When a student reaches the front of the Hall Pass Waitlist, the student (if SIP is enabled) and staff member receive a notification to start the pass. A Notification Timeout sets how long they have to start it. If the pass is not started in time, the next student in line gets their turn, so the waitlist keeps moving.
⚙️ Before You Begin
- Only admins can turn on the Notification Timeout.
- The Hall Pass Waitlist must be turned on before the Notification Timeout option appears.
- The setting applies to the whole building.
🔧 Turn On the Notification Timeout (Admins)
- Select Settings in the left-side menu, then select Hall Pass.
- Scroll to the Hall Pass Waitlist Settings section.
- Turn on Add a notification timeout.
- Enter the number of minutes students and staff have to start the pass (1–60 minutes).
- Click Save.

🔔 How the Timeout Works
- When a student comes off the waitlist, a notification appears asking for the pass to be started.
- The notification shows the time by which the pass must be started, in your local time.
- If the pass is not started in time, the notification is removed, the student is placed back on the waitlist, and the next student on the waitlist is notified.

Note: If student-initiated passes are turned on for your school, both the student and the staff member receive a notification, and the student can start their own pass from the waitlist.
💡 Good to Know
- The time limit appears in notifications in the Staff Portal, the PBIS Rewards Staff App, and the Student Portal.
- If no other students are on the waitlist when time runs out, the student stays on the waitlist until another pass becomes available.
- If no Notification Timeout is set, waitlist notifications stay active until someone acts on them.
